- Director Denis Villeneuve and cinematographer Greig Fraser often chose filming locations in the desert because a specific dune caught Villeneuve's eye with its shape, or the sun shone exactly as required for a particular scene. Strict discipline prevailed among the film crew to keep the dunes pristine. During filming, walking was permitted only along specially designated paths, and upon completion, specialized staff erased all traces of the crew's presence from the dunes.
