What's left behind the scenes
- The film is dedicated to the memory of Anita Morris (1943-1994), who passed away from ovarian cancer shortly after filming concluded.
- Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz (1942-2018) wrote the original screenplay back in 1974. It contained numerous references to radio stars of the past, starting from the 1930s. Universal Pictures executives demanded the script be rewritten to remove all references that the audience at the time of filming might not recognize. Producer George Lucas later deeply regretted that this demand was met.
- The film's budget was quite modest, but set designer Gavin Bocquet still managed to create 20 rooms in a honeycomb-like structure. The rest (such as the appearance of the building or the high-voltage power line support on the roof) was added using digital technology under the direction of visual effects specialist Scott Squires.
- According to producer Rick McCallum, the film was shot during a break in the production of the series 'The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles' (1992-1993), and a significant portion of the series' cast was used. The crew was preparing to leave for Thailand when an earthquake struck California, blocking all roads from the filming location for approximately a week. The crew and cast had plenty of food, as 400 extras were expected to arrive (for obvious reasons, they did not, but the crew managed to film some scenes without them). This meant everyone had to take a forced break before departing for Thailand, and George Lucas suggested using the free time to film 'Radio On' (1994).
