Short description

Miser Ebenezer Scrooge is awakened on Christmas Eve by spirits who reveal to him his own miserable existence, what opportunities he wasted in his youth, his current cruelties, and the dire fate that awaits him if he does not change his ways. Scrooge is faced with his own story of growing bitterness and meanness, and must decide what his own future will hold: death or redemption.

What's left behind the scenes

  • This is the third Disney adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novella. In 1983, the animated short 'Mickey's Christmas Carol' was released, featuring nearly all of Disney's animated classics characters. Nine years later, in 1992, the puppet version 'The Muppet Christmas Carol' hit screens, which was also distributed by Disney.
  • This is Jim Carrey's first project with Disney throughout his long acting career.
  • The film is based on the novella 'A Christmas Carol' (1841) by Charles Dickens.
  • When Scrooge falls into his grave, we can see a moment when the camera zooms in on the face of the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, and his empty eye sockets flash with blue fire. This is a direct reference to Death from the “Discworld” cycle by popular British author Terry Pratchett: “His eye sockets are empty, but tiny blue lights burn in their depths.”
