  • The character of Adam Sonnenstein, played by Ralph Fiennes, incorporates details from the lives and deaths of Attila Petschauer (1904-1943) and Endre Kabos (1906-1944), two Hungarian fencers of Jewish origin (Kabos was even a gold medalist at the 1936 Berlin Olympics). Neither of them survived World War II.
