Short description

Sue Ellen Crandell is a teenager eagerly awaiting her mother's summer-long absence. While the babysitter looks after her rambunctious younger siblings, Sue Ellen can party and have fun. But then the babysitter abruptly dies, leaving the Crandells short on cash. Sue Ellen finds a sweet job in fashion by lying about her age and experience on her résumé. But, while her siblings run wild, she discovers the downside of adulthood

What's left behind the scenes

  • Kito Kugan was to play 15-year-old Kenny, but he was already 20 years old, and was 22 months older than Christina Applegate, who played alongside him.
  • The original script was written with Winona Ryder in mind for the role of Sue Ellen, but she declined as she was already filming Tim Burton's drama "Edward Scissorhands" (1990) and Richard Benjamin's "Mermaids" (1990) simultaneously. Justine Bateman was initially cast as Sue Ellen, but soon left the project. Christina Applegate was then cast after Ed O'Neill, who co-starred with her in the series "Married... with Children" (1987-1997), gave her the script to read.
  • Kristina Applegate gained nearly 4.5 kilograms for the role of a 17-year-old teenage girl. After filming, she lost almost all of that weight and returned to her role in the series "Married... with Children".
  • The song "Viva La Vogue" by Army of Lovers is used in the film's soundtrack.

  • Production stalled toward the end because Christopher Petit's (1976-2000) drug addiction began to spiral out of control. To keep the film on schedule, several scenes featuring the actor had to be cut.
