Short description
Arthur is a 30-year-old child who will inherit $750 million if he complies with his family's demands and marries the woman of their choosing.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film is considered a modern adaptation of P.G. Wodehouse's (1881-1975) novels about the aristocrat Bertie Wooster and his valet Jeeves, with Arthur playing the role of Wooster and his servant Hobson playing the role of Jeeves.
- Sir John Gielgud repeatedly refused the role of Hobson, and only agreed when the fee was raised to the point where refusing would have been a sin.
- Sir John Gielgud turned down the role of Hobson several times, agreeing only when the fee was raised to such an extent that it would have been a sin to refuse.
- Four alternative endings for the film were shot. During the editing process, director Steve Gordon was still debating which ending to include in the final cut. The version that lead actor Dudley Moore (1935-2002) opposed focused more on the relationship between Arthur and Hobson than on Arthur's relationship with Linda.
- According to the plot, Liza Minnelli's character had to board a bus near the Bergdorf department store on Fifth Avenue. The bus arrived and the actress got on, assuming it was a production bus, only realizing her mistake after traveling half a block.
