Short description

When they take some friends on an extreme sport adventure, the last thing Jared and Sam expect to see below the shark-infested waters is a legendary pirate ship rumored to contain millions of dollars in gold. But their good fortune is short-lived, as a ruthless gang of criminals gets word of what they have uncovered.

What's left behind the scenes

Filming took place in the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, and Florida from January 15 to March 28, 2004.
Many scenes that proved to be too violent were re-edited or modified using computer graphics in order to achieve the desired PG-13 rating.
Fearing excessive criticism from conservative American society, Sony Pictures used computer graphics to slightly adjust several frames in the movie trailer so that Jessica Alba's bikini covered more of the actress's figure than it did in reality.
According to GPS readings, the location of the debris is 24° 58' 250" North latitude and 77° 18' 596" West longitude, which corresponds to the coordinates of one of the Bahamian islands.
