Llewelyn Moss stumbles upon dead bodies, $2 million and a hoard of heroin in a Texas desert, but methodical killer Anton Chigurh comes looking for it, with local sheriff Ed Tom Bell hot on his trail. The roles of prey and predator blur as the violent pursuit of money and justice collide.

- The hairstyle of the killer Anton Chigurh was based on a 1979 photograph of a brothel visitor. After the look was brought to life, Javier Bardem looked in the mirror and exclaimed, 'Oh no, now I'm out of sex for two months!'
- The film is based on the novel 'No Country for Old Men' (2005) by Cormac McCarthy.
- The film does not have an original soundtrack. Only music written for the film is heard during the end credits.
- The action takes place in Texas, but for financial reasons, the film was shot in Las Vegas. However, at the insistence of Tommy Lee Jones, the Coen brothers filmed several scenes in West Texas.
- The pharmacy where Chigurh blows up a car parked on the street is called Mike Zoss Pharmacy. Joel and Ethan Coen spent a lot of time at a pharmacy with the same name in Minneapolis during their childhood. Their own production company is also called Mike Zoss Productions.
- Producers negotiated with Heath Ledger for the role of Llewelyn Moss, but he ultimately declined to participate in the film.
