When David, Juliet, and Alex find their new roommate dead with a large sum of money, they agree to hide the body and keep the cash. However, this newfound fortune gradually corrodes their friendship.

According to Danny Boyle, the lead actors in the film specifically studied the professions of their characters. Ewan McGregor worked in an editorial office, Christopher Eccleston – in an accounting firm, and Kerry Fox – at a hospital during the night shift.
