Short description

Robert McCall finds himself at home in Southern Italy but he discovers his friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends' protector by taking on the mafia.

What's left behind the scenes

  • One of the characters wears a baseball cap with the inscription “Vienna Inn Est. 1960.” Vienna Inn is a bar and restaurant in Vienna, Virginia, near the CIA headquarters in Langley. Furthermore, Vienna Inn is a local trademark, once the main distributor of Budweiser beer in the United States. Vienna Inn is also famous for its chili dogs and perpetually irritated and dissatisfied staff.
  • The fictional town in southern Italy was filmed in Atrani, in the province of Salerno. Dakota Fanning (who played Emma here) previously starred in the miniseries “Ripley,” based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 novel and the film “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (Anthony Minghella, 1999), which was also filmed in Atrani.
  • Posters released in the US and abroad use the phrase “The Final Chapter” in various forms. However, in one interview during the film's promotional campaign, director Antoine Fuqua stated that a prequel and sequel to the film were quite possible if Denzel Washington, the lead actor, showed interest in the project.
  • Jay Natelli, who played Greg in the film, appeared in a small role as a juror in the 11th episode of the 4th season of the original television series "The Equalizer" (1985-1989). The role was so minor that the actor’s name was not even mentioned in the credits.
  • Jay Natalee, who played Greg in the film, appeared in a small role as a juror in the 11th episode of the 4th season of the original 'The Equalizer' TV series (1985-1989). The role was so brief that the actor's name was not even mentioned in the credits.

  • The posters released in the US and abroad use variations of the phrase 'The Final Chapter.' Regardless, in an interview as part of the film's promotional campaign, director Antoine Fuqua stated that a prequel and a sequel are entirely possible if lead actor Denzel Washington shows interest in the project.
  • At the beginning of the film in Sicily, the protagonist, played by Denzel Washington, returns stolen money ($366,400) from a union pension fund to its rightful owner, Greg. In the next scene, Emma, played by Dakota Fanning, delivers the money to Greg, who lives in Boston, Massachusetts, the same city where the protagonist resides.
