Short description
Chuck Nolan, a top international manager for FedEx, and Kelly, a Ph.D. student, are in love and heading towards marriage. Then Chuck's plane to Malaysia crashes at sea during a terrible storm. He's the only survivor, and finds himself marooned on a desolate island. With no way to escape, Chuck must find ways to survive in his new home.

- At the end of the movie, most viewers are concerned with only one single question: "What was in the unopened package?" Robert Zemeckis stated that it contained a waterproof, solar-powered mobile phone.
- Production of the film was halted for one year to allow Tom Hanks to lose approximately 20 kg (44 lbs) and grow a thick head of hair. During this time, Zemeckis's team managed to film "What Lies Beneath".
- The main character's name is Chuck Noland. If his name is written as C. Noland, it sounds like 'See no land'.
