Short description
It ain't easy bein' green -- especially if you're a likable (albeit smelly) ogre named Shrek. On a mission to retrieve a gorgeous princess from the clutches of a fire-breathing dragon, Shrek teams up with an unlikely compatriot -- a wisecracking donkey.
What's left behind the scenes
- According to the creators, the song "I'm a Believer" was chosen specifically for the line "I thought love was only true in fairy tales."
- Work on the cartoon began on October 31, 1996, and ended after more than four and a half years.
- Although Donkey is supposed to be a hoofed animal, almost all of his movements are modeled after those of a dog, with the exception of the chase scene at the beginning of the movie, where Donkey's movements are modeled after those of a rabbit.
- The scene in which Thelonius (the masked executioner) sings is a reference to Stacker 2, a commercial in which the wrestler Kane, who also wears a mask, sang karaoke.
