Short description
Huo Yuan Jia became the most famous martial arts fighter in all of China at the turn of the 20th Century. Huo faced personal tragedy but ultimately fought his way out of darkness, defining the true spirit of martial arts and also inspiring his nation. The son of a great fighter who didn't wish for his child to follow in his footsteps, Huo resolves to teach himself how to fight - and win.
What's left behind the scenes
- In one scene, Australian giant Nathan Jones slipped and lost several teeth. But this didn't throw him off course; he refused the help of dentists and continued filming.
- Michelle Yeoh had a very small role, which was ultimately cut to reduce the film's runtime.
- Nathan Jones is 2.12 meters tall. Chinese hotels do not provide sleeping arrangements for such titans, so Jones had to push three beds together just to lie down.
- Anthony De Longis and Jet Li broke at least 6 swords during the filming of their fight scene.
- Brandon Ree insisted that the weapon in the form of a thin, long stick, known as a 'mao,' be equipped with a sharp tip, otherwise it would just look ridiculous. He decided to demonstrate his accuracy using one of the stuntmen, who was supposed to hold a stack of newspapers three meters away from him. He lunged… and the weapon hit the center of the newspaper stack.
- Nathan Jones truly immersed himself in his role. In one of the takes, he lifted and slammed an actor to the floor so powerfully that the poor man had to be taken to the hospital with broken ribs.
