Short description
Driver is a skilled Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a getaway driver for criminals. Though he projects an icy exterior, lately he's been warming up to a pretty neighbor named Irene and her young son, Benicio. When Irene's husband gets out of jail, he enlists Driver's help in a million-dollar heist. The job goes horribly wrong, and Driver must risk his life to protect Irene and Benicio from the vengeful masterminds behind the robbery.
What's left behind the scenes
- Originally, Irene was supposed to be a 30-year-old Latina.
- In one of the scenes, the car's tachometer shows 0 RPM – meaning the car isn't running and is simply being towed. But in the following shots, you can see the engine actually working, confirmed by the tachometer.
- The gangster Rose stabs the Driver in the left side, but in the next scene the wound has moved to the right.
- The head-stomping scene was heavily edited during montage, as the Motion Picture Association found it too violent. For consultation on filming the scene, Nicolas Winding Refn reached out to Gaspar Noé, who used a similar technique in the controversial film 'Irreversible'.
