Short description

The life story of Elvis Presley as seen through the complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

What's left behind the scenes

  • In reality, Austin Butler and Elvis Presley (1935-1977) are very distant relatives. Presley's father, Vernon, and Butler's mother, Lori, shared common ancestors.
  • While playing Elvis Presley, Austin Butler appeared on screen in a total of 90 different costumes.
  • For the filming, Austin Butler's hair was dyed, and in some cases, he simply wore a dark chestnut or black wig, as he is actually a blond. Elvis Presley, who also wore his hair chestnut or black, was also naturally blond.
  • The scene in which Elvis Presley slips a gun into his shoe before one of his Las Vegas performances is not a product of the screenwriters' imagination. Presley did indeed carry a weapon after he began receiving threats.
  • When the film crew moved to Australia, Tom Hanks sent Austin Butler a typewriter with a short message signed 'Colonel' Tom Parker (1909-1997, Elvis Presley's manager). On behalf of Elvis Presley, Butler used the same typewriter to type a reply to Hanks. After that, the actors began regularly exchanging typewritten letters. According to Hanks, the content of the letters generally mirrored the real correspondence exchanged between Parker and Presley.
  • Adam Dunn, who played Bill Black (1926-1965), had never played the double bass before. Before his screen tests, he borrowed a double bass from someone, and once he landed the role, he spent the next three months in constant rehearsals, playing the instrument for 8 hours a day.
  • While preparing for the role of Presley, Austin Butler took tap and swing dancing lessons.
  • Applying makeup to Austin Butler took 4.5 hours.
  • Austin Butler performs the singing and dancing himself in the role of the young Elvis Presley.
