  • Jason Blum was one of the producers of Jordan Peele's previous film. He was offered the role of producer for this film as well, but his company, Blumhouse Productions, was unable to provide the required budget, so Universal Pictures hired Blum as a producer.

  • Before filming, Jordan Peele tasked the actors with watching 10 horror films: "The Birds" (Alfred Hitchcock, 1963), "The Shining" (Stanley Kubrick, 1980), "Dead Again" (Kenneth Branagh, 1991), "Funny Games" (Michael Haneke, 1997), "The Sixth Sense" (M. Night Shyamalan, 1999), "A Tale of Two Sisters" (Kim Jee-woon, 2003), "Martyrs" (Pascal Laugier, 2008), "Let the Right One In" (Tomas Alfredson, 2008), "The Babadook" (Jennifer Kent, 2014), "It Follows" (David Robert Mitchell, 2014).
  • Filming took place from late July to early October 2018 in Santa Cruz and Los Angeles.
