Shizuku lives a simple life, dominated by her love for stories and writing. One day she notices that all the library books she has have been previously checked out by the same person: 'Seiji Amasawa'.

- In the watch factory scene, the inscription 'Porco Rosso' can be read on the clock face.
- The fantastic paintings in the film were created by artist Naohisa Inoue. Inoue had always greatly admired Miyazaki's work, so he sent an invitation to Studio Ghibli to visit his exhibition. Miyazaki fell in love with Inoue's work at first sight. In addition to proposing that they work together, Miyazaki also purchased one of Inoue's paintings.
- Yoko Honna, who voiced Shizuku, was the same age as her character during the production of the film.
