Short description
Based on the true story of two young men, David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli, who won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon to arm America's allies in Afghanistan.
What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, the film was titled the same as the Guy Lawson article it was based on – "Arms and the Dudes".
- In 2016, Ephraim Diveroli sued Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., director Todd Phillips, producer Bradley Cooper, and several others. The lawsuit sought to block the film's release. The plaintiff claimed that the movie was based on the memoir "Once A Gun Runner," which he had self-published.
- The arms manufacturers' forum in Las Vegas, attended by David and Ephraim, is a fictional creation of the film's authors, but it has real-life counterparts. SHOT Show – the world's largest exhibition of hunting and shooting sports equipment – is held annually (usually in January) and lasts four days, in recent years in Las Vegas. Tanks, rockets, and other military equipment shown in the film were filmed at IDEX – an international arms and military equipment exhibition held every two years in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
- The film's poster is a parody of the famous poster for Brian De Palma's crime drama 'Scarface' (1983), which the main characters of 'War Dogs' constantly reference.
- The International Hotel, where David (played by Miles Teller) is sitting, is located not in Albania, but in the center of Bucharest, the capital of Romania.
