Short description

Brad and Janet Majors find their strained marriage put to the test on popular Denton TV show Marriage Maze. Poor Brad is heavily sedated and institutionalised, whilst Janet is given a radical makeover and primed for stardom. But what are the real motivations behind the kooky DTV crew and their enigmatic head-honcho, Farley Flavors?

The role of Brad/Farley, ultimately played by Cliff De Young, was offered to Tim Curry, but he declined, stating that he wouldn't be able to convincingly speak with an American accent.
The original script was set in the vicinity of Denton, such as Brad and Janet's house and Cosmo and Nation's 'hospital.' It was supposed to be filmed in the real city of Denton, Texas, but the 1979-80 Screen Actors Guild strike meant that no American actors were allowed to film anywhere. Filming moved to the UK, but no English locations could pass for an American suburb, so director Jim Sharman staged the entire film in a Denton television studio.
