Short description
Dedicated environmental lawyer Lucy Kelson goes to work for billionaire George Wade as part of a deal to preserve a community center. Indecisive and weak-willed George grows dependent on Lucy's guidance on everything from legal matters to clothing. Exasperated, Lucy gives notice and picks Harvard graduate June Carter as her replacement. As Lucy's time at the firm nears an end, she grows jealous of June and has second thoughts about leaving George.

- In the scene where Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant's characters sit on the roof and talk, she recalls seeing Mr. and Mrs. Goldfarb sitting in a parking lot as a child, so no one would take their son's parking space. This line is a reference to Darren Aronofsky's film 'Requiem for a Dream' (2000), where Mrs. Goldfarb sits in the street with neighbors.
- It was initially intended to film in Toronto, where it would have been cheaper, but actress and producer Sandra Bullock stated that a movie about New York must be filmed only in New York. Production was moved to New York and completed in 17 weeks. In honor of the filmmakers and actors and their assistance in restoring the city's economy after the tragedy of September 11, 2001, the Mayor of New York declared December 11, 2002, as 'Two Weeks Notice Day'.
