Short description
Buck Russell, a lovable but slovenly bachelor, suddenly becomes the temporary caretaker of his nephew and nieces after a family emergency. His freewheeling attitude soon causes tension with his older niece Tia, loyal girlfriend Chanice and just about everyone else who crosses his path.
What's left behind the scenes
- During the interrogation scene, Miles’s lines, as performed by Macaulay Culkin, were written on a piece of paper attached to Uncle Buck’s head, played by John Candy. This was done so that the actor wouldn’t remember his lines, but would read them, which is always faster. This way, the filmmakers maintained the fast-paced, tense rhythm of the scene.
- Practically all the sets (including the sets for the Russells' two-story house) were built in the gymnasium of a local school.
- The sound of the engine knocking in Buck's car is a gunshot sound layered over the explosion of a firecracker.
- Buck's car, which he calls 'The Beast,' is a two-door Mercury Marquis. This model was produced between 1975 and 1978.
