Short description

Eddie Miller struggles with his hatred of women, he's especially bothered by seeing women with their lovers. He starts a killing spree as a sniper by shooting women from far distances. In an attempt to get caught, he writes an anonymous letter to the police begging them to stop him.

The film was shot in a remarkably short time – 18 days – with a significant amount of footage shot on location, both in San Francisco and Long Beach.
"The Sniper" marked the beginning of the collaboration between Kramer and Dmitrik, who together made four films, including the war drama "Iron Eights" (1952), the post-war drama "The Juggler" (1953), set in Israel, and the naval psychological drama "The Caine Mutiny" (1954).
The film marked the return of director Edward Dmytryk to Hollywood after he had been blacklisted and subsequently served a prison sentence for contempt of Congress for refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee. In April 1951, he eventually testified, naming his colleagues from leftist organizations; he then spent some time in England and only resumed his career in the US thanks to an invitation from Stanley Kramer.
