Short description
When billionaire Jean-Marc Clement learns that he is to be satirized in an off-Broadway revue, he passes himself off as an actor playing him in order to get closer to the beautiful star of the show, Amanda Dell.
What's left behind the scenes
- Marilyn Monroe disliked the script. She agreed to star only to fulfill the terms of her contract with 20th Century Fox and appear in one more film.
- Yves Montand (1921-1991) described the filming as terrible because he did not speak English and was forced to memorize his lines by ear.
- Arthur Miller (1915-2005) rewrote the screenplay to center the plot around his wife, Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962). These changes did not sit well with Gregory Peck (1916-2003), who was supposed to play the male lead, and he left the project, saying, "A film made from this script will be as fun and amusing to watch as taking a grandmother down the stairs in a wheelchair." Furthermore, Peck did not particularly want to work with Monroe, who he had heard was constantly late for filming. The filmmakers wanted to cast Rock Hudson (1925-1985) instead of Peck, but he was under contract with Universal, and they would not release him. All of this played into Monroe's hands, as she wanted Yves Montand (1921-1991) to be cast in the role.
