What's left behind the scenes
- The opening scenes, set in 1947, were filmed six months after the end of principal photography.
- John Lynch genuinely broke the glass door of the first laboratory.
- The crew of the Russian submarine refers to diving depth in feet (both in the soundtrack and in the credits), even though Russia uses the metric system of measurement.
- During the shootout at the end of the film, Dr. Straub fired 20 times, while his magazine only held 10 bullets.
- The alien inside the capsule is the same one that appeared in Roland Emmerich's film 'Independence Day' (1996).
- The black-and-white footage showing Juliana is a clip from the 1951 film 'The Thing' (Christian Nyby). These same clips were used in the remake 'The Thing from Another World,' which is considered to be John Carpenter's 'The Thing' (1982). This is the very film that Kurt Russell's character finds in the ransacked camp of the Norwegian expedition.
