Short description
Average student and eternal optimist Lloyd Dobler seeks to capture the heart of Diane Court, a beautiful but unattainable valedictorian classmate. He surprises just about everyone - including himself - when she returns the sentiment. However, Diane's divorced, over-protective father soon begins to disapprove of the match, and Lloyd realises that it's going to take more than just the power of love to conquer all.

- In one episode, Lloyd (John Cusack) drives past a cinema showing the film 'The Coil' (1987), in which Cusack also starred.
- Robert Downey Jr. turned down the lead role, and it almost went to Kirk Cameron. Christian Slater also auditioned for it.
- In addition to Ioan Gruffudd for the role of Diane Court, Jennifer Connelly was also considered.
- According to producer James L. Brooks, the idea for the film came to him on the street when he saw a man walking with his daughter. Brooks then had the thought: what would happen if a father committed a crime?
- Director Cameron Crowe couldn't find a suitable love song for his film until he heard Peter Gabriel's “In Your Eyes.” In response to a request to allow the use of the song in the film, Gabriel asked to be sent a rough cut of the future film.
