Short description

Reformed parolee Steve Lacey is caught in the middle when a wounded former cellmate seeks him out for shelter. The other two former cellmates then attempt to force him into doing a bank job.

When handing the screenplay to André De Toth, Warner Bros. envisioned a more ambitious project starring Humphrey Bogart and Ava Gardner, with a filming schedule set for 35 days. However, according to De Toth, he decided that Sterling Hayden was best suited for the role of the detective. Jack Warner allowed De Toth to use Hayden, but in doing so, he cut the budget and reduced the filming schedule to 15 days.
