Short description

The Nomad is a historical epic set in 18th-century Kazakhstan. The film is a fictionalised account of the youth and coming-of-age of Ablai Khan, as he grows and fights to defend the fortress at Hazrat-e Turkestan from Dzungar invaders.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was completed back in 2004, but after watching the picture, the producers decided to invest additional funds, requiring the creators to film additional battle scenes and expand the romantic subplot. Disagreeing with them, director Ivan Passer and cinematographer Julee Steiger left the project, and were replaced by Sergei Bodrov and Dan Laustsen.
  • Initially, the role of Oraz was to be played by Mark Dacascos, but upon learning that Jason Scott Lee was considering it, Mark stepped aside and played Sharysh instead.
