Short description
A mistaken delivery in Mumbai's famously efficient lunchbox delivery system (Mumbai's Dabbawallahs) connects a young housewife to a stranger in the dusk of his life. They build a fantasy world together through notes in the lunchbox. Gradually, this fantasy threatens to overwhelm their reality.
What's left behind the scenes
- Director and screenwriter Ritesh Batra began gathering material for a documentary about Mumbai's 'dabbawala' hot meal delivery system and spent an entire week with its employees in 2007. It was from them that he heard numerous stories they had learned while delivering meals to clients and waiting at their doors. Consequently, he abandoned the idea of making a documentary and began working on a screenplay for a feature film.
- To bring authenticity to their characters and better portray them on screen, Nimrat Kaur and Nakul Vaid lived in the house featured in the film for a long time and rehearsed constantly.
