Short description
Humanity finally rids themselves of Godzilla, imprisoning him in an icy tomb in the South Pole. All is peaceful until various monsters emerge to lay waste to Earth's cities. Overwhelmed, humanity is seemingly saved by a race of benevolent aliens known as Xiliens. But not all is what it seems with these bizarre visitors. If humanity wishes to survive, they must reluctantly resurrect their most hated enemy, Godzilla.
What's left behind the scenes
- The script envisioned the appearance of Destoroyah from the film 'Godzilla vs. Destoroyah' (1995).
- King Caesar, Rodan, and Anguirus were left alive as a tribute to the films where they were Godzilla's allies.
- The film was given a PG-13 rating due to the use of slang in a scene featuring a gangster and a policeman in New York. Initially, Mick Preston (the policeman) and Darren Schnase (the gangster) attempted to use profanity, but the swearing was removed as the film could have received an R or even an NC-17 rating. The profanity was replaced with slang via dubbing, which is noticeable by the lip movements.
- The opening credits show footage from all previous Godzilla films.
- The film does not feature music from previous films. A new musical theme for Godzilla appears in the film three times. The old theme is present, but it does not play during scenes featuring Godzilla.
- The project was being prepared for the fiftieth anniversary of Godzilla.
- The scenario involved the appearance of the Destroyer from the film "Godzilla vs. Destroyer" (1995).
- During the battle between Godzilla and Zilla in Sydney, the song 'We're All to Blame' by Sum 41 is played.
- In the film, the initial stage of King Ghidorah closely resembles the Xenomorph from the "Alien" series (1979-1997), only this alien is skyscraper-sized, with three heads and two tails. It unleashed high-voltage lightning onto Godzilla. As the monster neared death, it transformed into King Ghidorah.
