Short description
An ordinary Lego mini-figure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil Lego tyrant from conquering the universe.
What's left behind the scenes
- This is the second time Will Forte has voiced Abraham Lincoln. The first time was in the series "Clone High" (2002–2003).
- The film character Benny (the astronaut) is a boy from the 1980s. His figure looks as if it has been played with by several generations of children. This is noticeable in the worn logo and broken helmet. Moreover, the crack in the helmet is in the place where real Lego figures typically broke.
- In Emmet's apartment, there are altered posters for the movie '21 Jump Street' (2012) with the captions 'Teen Copz: The Movie' and 'Macho and the Nerd'.
- When Wonder Woman is handcuffed, like the other Master Builders, she is the least pleased about it. According to early Wonder Woman comics, if a man puts handcuffs on her or ties her up, she loses all her power.
- In 2012, the following cast was considered: Emmet — Robert Downey Jr., Wyldstyle — Emma Stone, Vitruvius — Nicolas Cage, Batman — Christopher Lee, Benny — Sacha Baron Cohen, and Lord Business — Steven Root.
- Aristophanes' comedy 'The Birds' tells the story of a bird city between heaven and earth where everything is perfectly arranged. The film features a similar city, Unikitty's hometown, where there are no rules or restrictions.
- The "Wilhelm scream" can be heard during the motorcycle chase scene when Lucy throws the biker off.
- The creators intentionally tried to film in the style of stop-motion, and also to make the special effects not look too obvious. All this was done to make everything on screen look like it was made with real Lego.

- The music Vitruvius plays on the piano when Lucy and Emmet enter the saloon is a ragtime version of "Everything Is Awesome," which is the film's main musical theme.
- Batman’s line about Emmet being the hero Lucy deserves is a reference to Commissioner Gordon’s final speech in "The Dark Knight" (2008).
- When Wildstyle rescues Emmet, she extends her hand to him and says, "Come with me if you want to live." This is a reference to the Terminator film series.
- One of the Master Builders is named El Macho Wrestler. This is the name of the main antagonist in the movie 'Despicable Me 2' (2013).
- Real Lego sets were used during filming, specifically director Christopher Miller's personal 'Space Village' set.
