Short description
A young boy makes a snowman one Christmas Eve, which comes to life at midnight and takes him on a magical adventure to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus.
What's left behind the scenes
- The plot is based on the children's book of the same name by Raymond Briggs from 1978, a story told entirely through pictures, without words.
- When the animated film was first shown in the US, viewers saw a version in which David Bowie (1947-2016) portrays the grown-up James and recalls the winter he met the Snowman. In the English version, Raymond Briggs himself introduces the film by talking about how snowy that winter was when he wrote his book, but Americans decided the film needed a world-renowned star in the introduction.
