Short description
On the evening of March 31, 1943, legendary lyricist Lorenz Hart confronts his shattered self-confidence in Sardi’s bar as his former collaborator, Richard Rodgers, celebrates the opening night of his ground-breaking hit musical, “Oklahoma!”
What's left behind the scenes
- Ethan Hawke (who played Lorenz Hart) first read the script about ten years before work on the film began and expressed his desire to act in the movie even then. Director Richard Linklater considered Hawke too young for the role and did not want to age Hart using makeup, so Linklater shelved the project for a while.
- To better capture Lorenz Hart's appearance, Ethan Hawke partially shaved his head and wore a wig.
- Ethan Hawke is significantly taller than Lorenz Hart, so during filming, camera angles had to be carefully chosen and other tricks employed to make the actor appear shorter.
