Short description
A group of angels look longingly upon the life of humans. Berlin now is a very different place: unified in name but overrun with crime, corruption, and—in what turns out to be a key theme here—Americans.
What's left behind the scenes
- Nastassja Kinski had previously worked with Wenders twice – in “Wrong Move” (1975) and “Paris, Texas” (1984).
- Yella Rottländer appeared in one of the episodes. Before this, she hadn't been in a film since the 1970s (as a child), including playing the lead role in Wenders’ early film “Alice in the Cities” (1974). At that time, her co-star was Rüdiger Vogler as Philipp Winter. In “Faraway, So Close!”, she plays the angel of a character also named Philipp Winter, again played by Rüdiger Vogler.
- The President of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, appears in the film, playing himself.
- Previously, Nastassja Kinski appeared in two of Wenders' films: 'Wrong Move' (1975) and 'Paris, Texas' (1984).
