Short description

Two of New York's most notorious organized crime bosses, Frank Costello and Vito Genovese, vie for control of the city's streets. Once the best of friends, petty jealousies and a series of betrayals place them on a deadly collision course that will reshape the Mafia (and America) forever.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The original title of the film, The Alto Knights, refers to the famous club of the same name in Little Italy in Manhattan, New York, where influential mobsters often met and discussed criminal matters.
  • Initially, the film was titled Wise Guys (literal translation “Wise Guys”)—in gangster slang, this refers to mobsters who have undergone the “family initiation” ritual.
